Orthodontics
As part of our commitment to offer a wide range of dental services Dr. Bob performs orthodontic treatment in our office and Dr. Jeff will soon begin additional training, so he too will become proficient in providing this service to our patients. Although we are not specialists in orthodontics we handle most orthodontic cases unless a referral to a specialist (an Orthodontist) is needed or desired by the patient. Dr. Bob has had extensive training in orthodontics, continues to acquire more training in the area and has over 25 years experience providing these services to children and adults.
Age to begin
Because we see children routinely for checkups we can let you know the best time for your child to begin. Frequently we begin orthodontic treatment at the young age 7 as some early correction of jaw size and alignment are best done at that age.
Who can benefit
Children and adults can benefit from the straightening of their teeth.
Children are our most common orthodontic patients. We can start children off early to help lessen the time they actually spend in braces when they are older OR we can treat the teenager who really wants to improve their appearance. Treatment is sometimes necessary for proper alignment or overcrowding issues and other times more for cosmetic reasons than functional ones. Children can be just as conscious of their smiles as adults can be and by correcting these issues you can give your child a boost in self-confidence when they need it the most.
In addition, many of our orthodontic patients are adults. Crowding problems can actually become more severe with age and crowded teeth are not only unsightly but can be very hard to keep clean and healthy. If you are an adult and want to find out more on how orthodontics can benefit you please let us know - there is no reason to have difficult to clean teeth or a smile you are not happy with. Orthodontics are no longer just a "kid thing."
Options
We offer a variety of options in orthodontics from silver brackets to tooth colored porcelain brackets, which are less visible. and even colored elastics to given your braces personality. Removable appliances and retainers in custom colors, also add to the individuality of your child's orthodontics. All of this to make your or your child’s orthodontic experience as comfortable and fun as possible.

For adults who are not interested in showing off their orthodontic treatment, either the porcelain brackets with clear elastics or "invisible braces" (clear aligner therapy) can be used to straighten your smile without advertising it. An added benefit of aligner therapy is that patients can whiten their teeth at the same time, the aligners used are similar to custom bleach trays and will hold your whitening gel, so you can straighten and whiten at the same time. How To Start or Find Out More about your options
The first step, is to have orthodontic records taken at our office. These records consist of certain x-rays (depending on the need for your case), photos, and study models of your teeth. The records are taken in the first visit, then you will return one week later for a consultation (included in the cost of the records). During the consultation visit, you will meet with the dentist and he will go over the treatment plan he has created you. This discussion will include the type of orthodontic treatment that will be best to handle your individual needs and the estimated length of treatment. After he has fully explained your treatment plan and any options you may have, one of our Appointment Secretaries will go over the cost and your financial options - including any assistance you may have from your dental insurance plan, when applicable.
